Montpellier: Delort on their side
Montpellier have had plenty of reason to smile so far this season. Over the summer, the 2012 champions added firepower to what was already a solid defence, a recipe that means Michel der Zakarian's men are now unbeaten since the opening day.
Striker Andy Delort told The Ligue 1 Show on BeIN Sports: "We have 11 defenders on the pitch at all times. It's a real pleasure to play in a team that scraps like this, a team of warriors. We're really enjoying ourselves, and we're winning matches!"
Coach Michel Der Zakarian commented: "When the defence is beaten, we have a top goalkeeper who bails them out! He doesn't have to do so very often but when he is called upon he is there to make the save."
Montpellier's solid defence was already apparent last season, but thanks to Andy Delort and Gaëtan Laborde, the south coast side now have two real goalscorers to count on. The latter netted his fourth league goal last weekend, while Delort now has five in his last five outings. Marseille will be well aware of those statistics as they look to silence the red-hot duo on Sunday.
Laborde said: "We hit it off as soon as we met, and that has translated nicely on the pitch." Delort added "It really is a pleasure to play with him. It doesn't matter if I score or if he does, we're both just as happy each time!"
Montpellier only had a point more than their current total at the same stage of their title-winning season six years ago. But after Marseille this weekend, Lille, PSG and Lyon all await between now and Christmas, so nobody is getting carried away.
Der Zakarian said: "We will do everything we can to stay in the top places. That's what the players want and they're the ones on the pitch so up to them to show just how badly they want to keep winning!"
Goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte commented: "We're only looking forward to the big games more now as our fixture list gets tougher! If we want to stay up there, we have to win those games too!”
