Nantes record third straight home win
Kalifa Coulibaly scored twice as FC Nantes beat Amiens SC 3-2 at the Stade de la Beaujoire to make it three home wins in 10 days.
FC Nantes 3 - 2 Amiens SC
After beating Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 at home last weekend, Les Canaris had delayed Paris Saint-Germain's title celebrations by beating the capital club 3-2 at the Stade de la Beaujoire in midweek. Vahid Halilhodžić's side were determined to make it three on the bounce here, although they took their time to get going in a flat first half.
However, this encounter came to life after the break, with Coulibaly opening the scoring in the 49th minute with a low strike into the bottom corner just moments after he had seen his header tipped over by Régis Gurtner.
It was soon 2-0, with Lucas Lima's corner from the right being headed in at the far post by the stooping Coulibaly for his second of the day and sixth Ligue 1 Conforama goal of the campaign (55').
Nantes were out of sight just before the hour mark when Anthony Limbombe cut the ball back for Valentin Rongier to fire in first-time on his left foot (59'), but the visitors did rouse themselves to force a grandstand finale.
First Juan Ferney Otero pulled a goal back with a thunderous strike from long range into the top corner (62'), and then a Thomas Monconduit free-kick from wide on the right was headed in by substitute Cheick Timité.
Nantes held on, though, for a win that sees them finally hit the 40-point mark, while Amiens are now just four points clear of the bottom three after their fifth game without a win.
THE PLAYER: Kalifa Coulibaly
Nantes have needed someone to step up and score the goals from them ever since the loss of Emiliano Sala, and the giant Malian striker Coulibaly is now doing that, with his brace here meaning he has now netted four times in his team's five league outings since the March international break.
THE STAT: 3
Three wins on the bounce for Nantes from three home games in 10 days. They last won three in a row in October and November, right at the start of Halilhodžić's reign.
