A sublime strike from Javier Pastore - and a late volley from Christophe Jallet - won PSG a thrilling 2-0 victory over closest rivals Lyon on Sunday night, taking the capital club three points clear atop the table.

There was barely anything - in fact, only disciplinary records - to separate PSG and Lyon coming into Sunday night's match, but after 64 minutes Javier Pastore stepped into change all that with a crucial strike that sparked the 2-0 win over Lyon.

Power, precision

Racing in on the left of the area, the Argentine ace - who now has five goals and two assist to his name - left OL defender Bakary Koné for dead before blasting clinical shot between France 'keeper Hugo Lloris, who seemed to be expecting a low cross, and his near post from an improbable angle (64').

It was the moment of brilliance that the game had needed, the two sides duking it out in a first half in which Lyon had the slightly better run of play, working their team moves through Aléxandre Lacazette (22'), Maxime Gonalons (33') while by contrast PSG's many talented forwards, like Kévin Gameiro (5') and Jérémy Ménez (21') - plus defender Diego Lugano from fully 30 metres out (43') - tried to make the difference on their own.

Gomis off-target

Pastore had his claims for a penalty waved away by the referee (29') but had his reply with the opener, which brought OL - and the match - truly alive as joint Ligue1 top scorer Bafétimbi Gomis somehow missed a close-range header from an inch-perfect Michel Bastos cross (71').

Jallet makes sure

Kévin Gameiro and Ménez had several late chances to score a second and give PSG some breathing space, but in the end it was substitute Christophe Jallet who secured the win with an emphatic side-foot volley from Nene's floated free kick to the far post (90'+1). Lyon slip to equal second with the loss - just their second of the season in all competitions - locked on 17 points with Montpellier and Toulouse… and three points behind PSG.
