Paris Saint-Germain brought the curtain down on their end-of-season tour of the United States with a defeat on penalties against Red Star Belgrade in Chicago in the final of the Sister Cities Cup.

After a season in which they disappointed in Ligue 1 but won the French Cup for the eighth time, Antoine Kombouaré's side flew to New York for a short visit before playing two matches in the Windy City. A 1-0 win against hosts the Chicago Fire last Wednesday took them through to a final meeting with the Serbian league runners-up.

Played in front of a crowd of 6,000 at the Fire's Toyota Park, this match proved to be anything but a tame end-of-season affair. Paris defender Zoumana Camara was sent-off for a tackle from behind early in the second-half, and Red Star went on to take the lead. However, a powerful strike from Marcos Ceara at the death took the game into extra-time. With no further goals scored, the match went to penalties, and Jean-Eudes Maurice missed the decisive kick to hand Red Star the victory 7-6 in the shootout.

The capital club now head for home and a holiday before returning to training at the beginning of July. With Europa League football to look forward to in the new season, Paris could find themselves renewing acquaintances with Red Star.
