Quartet named in Morocco squad
Four Ligue 1-based players have been called up by Morocco for this month's Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Montpellier duo Abdelhamid El-Kaoutari and Younès Belhanda are included in a 23-man list named by Lions of the Atlas coach Eric Gerets. The former Marseille boss has also called up Ahmed Kantari of Brest and striker Youssouf Hadji of Rennes.
High-flying Montpellier will therefore be without Belhanda for some time, as the 21-year-old has been suspended for the next three matches by the LFP's Disciplinary Commission following his sending-off at Valenciennes last month.
Morocco have been drawn in Group C at the Cup of Nations alongside co-hosts Gabon, Niger and Tunisia, who they meet in their opening game in Libreville on January 23. The tournament runs from January 21 until February 12.
