Sanchez dismissed by Valenciennes

Daniel Sanchez has been dismissed as Valenciennes coach by club president Jean-Raymond Legrand. VAFC have won only one game this season and are bottom of the table.

Valenciennes claimed their first point since Week 1 last Saturday when Eloge Enza-Yamissi's stoppage-time goal earned a point at home to Reims but that was not enough to save former Tours boss Sanchez, who exited the club after just over two seasons in charge.

Legrand said: "On a human Level Sanchez is someone I appreciate a lot and the decision was particularly difficult to take. But with only four points from nine games something had to be done so that the club stays in Ligue 1. I made the decision just after 1400 on Monday and I had a knot in my stomach.

"I've done the hardest part now and on Thursday I'll start working to find his successor. I've already received 40 CVs, including a couple after we lost 4-0 to Nice. I want someone experienced with the charisma necessary to get everyone moving in the right direction.

"I think we've got a squad capable of finishing between 10th and 17th and we are not the worst team in the division."
