Two days after his compatriot Pablo Sarabia, Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera joined Paris Saint-Germain. The 29-year-old signed from Manchester United as a free agent on a five-year deal.

After Sarabia, Ander Herrera is the second Spaniard to be recruited by Paris Saint-Germain so far this summer. Herrera, who plays in a slightly deeper position than his compatriot, officially signed for the capital club on Thursday. He will wear the number 21 jersey.

"Paris Saint-Germain is the biggest club in France, and they continue to progress, playing to win every possible title," said the former Real Zaragoza and Athletic Bilbao midfielder. "I really wanted to come to Paris and wear these colours. The club has a great history and I am happy to be able to write new pages! Joining this club is an extraordinary feeling. I also like the city. Paris is the most beautiful city in the world. »

Beginnings in Bilbao, titles with Man U

A native of Bilbao, Herrera began his professional career at Real Zaragoza in 2009 at the age of 20. In three seasons (86 games, six goals), first in the second division and then in La Liga, the midfielder caught eyes in Spain before returning to his home town by joining Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2011. In his first season at the club, he had the opportunity to face PSG in the Europa League group stage, but he missed both matches, being injured in the first leg and then rested in the second.

Herrera continued to progress with the team from the Basque region, becoming one of the benchmarks in his position in Spain. After three full seasons (128 games, 11 goals), he made the move overseas, opting for the Premier League and Manchester United in 2014. In five years, he has built up a fine record with the Red Devils, winning an FA Cup (2016), a League Cup (2017) and a Europa League title (2017). After 189 matches in all competitions (20 goals) the twice-capped Spain international came to the end of his contract and opted for PSG and Ligue 1 Conforama for the next big step in his career.
