FC Nantes have announced that Vahid Halilhodzic will no longer coach the club, the Bosnian stepping down on Friday after less than a year at the helm of Les Canaris.

Vahid Halilhodzic and FC Nantes have gone their separate ways. The Bosnian coach relinquished the reins at Les Canaris' on Saturday, less than a year after being appointed in early October 2018. The Nantes club announced the news on Friday evening, stating that the Bosnian technician's departure would come after the friendly match against Genoa (1-1) on Friday evening.

FC Nantes explained that the separation was an amicable one: "Pending a final decision on the recruitment of the future coach, assistant coach Patrick Collot and fitness trainer Cyril Moine will continue to take care of training the senior squad."

Last October, Vahid Halilhodzic returned to Ligue 1 Conforama almost 14 years after his departure. In France, he coached Beauvais, LOSC, Stade Rennais and PSG before Les Canaris. The former Yugoslav international had also played for FC Nantes between 1981 and 1986 (145 matches, 93 goals). Notably, he had been French champion in 1983 and the top scorer in the league in 1983 and 1985.
