Trophée des Champions: Cavani to miss showpiece opener
Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani will not feature in the Trophée des Champions against AS Monaco in Shenzhen, China, on Saturday. Uruguay's World Cup star is still suffering from a calf complaint sustained in Russia.
Last season's quadruple-winning Ligue 1 Conforama champions Paris Saint-Germain are looking to maintain their stranglehold on domestic silverware against AS Monaco in the Trophée des Champions on Saturday, they will do so without the services of main goal threat Edinson Cavani, who will not make the trip to China.
The 31-year-old, who struck a superb double in Uruguay's World Cup win over Portugal, is yet to recover completely from the calf injury that kept him out of the quarter-final clash with eventual champions France, and will not be joining the squad for Saturday's showpiece season curtain-raiser against last season's Ligue 1 Conforama runners-up AS Monaco.
Neymar Jr a chance
New Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel - whose side fell to a 5-1 International Champions Cup defeat against Arsenal in Singapore on Saturday - will have his pair of Brazilian stoppers Thiago Silva and Marquinhos available. Their compatriot Neymar Jr is also a chance to make the trip east despite having been scheduled to return to training from post-World Cup holidays just days before the re-make of last season's Trophée des Champions, in which the capital club trumped Monaco 2-1.
