With the Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon in 2024 and dozens of Ligue 1 Uber Eats players set to represent their countries in Côte d’Ivoire, we continue a special series featuring the legends of the game from several of the countries that are participating. Today’s feature focuses on Burkina Faso.

Bertrand Traoré: Olympique Lyonnais 2017-2020.

Traoré joined Lyon in 2017 where he was a part of a great attacking side. The current Aston Villa player had 21 goals and 9 assists in 88 Ligue 1 games. With Burkina Faso, he has 72 games and 15 goals. He made his senior debut in the national team on September 2011 when he was only 15 years old.

Dango Ouattara: FC Lorient 2021-2023. 

Ouattara currently plays for Bournemouth in the English Premier League. He had 43 games, 7 goals and 8 assists in his time in Ligue 1 with Lorient. He made his professional debut with Lorient in 8 August 2021. With the Burkina Faso national team, he made his debut on 30 December 2021. He has 7 goals with his national team in 17 matches.

Charles Kaboré: Olympique de Marseille 2008-2013.

Kaboré played in 136 games in Ligue 1 with 2 goals and 8 assists. The defensive midfielder won the league with Marseille in the 2009/10 season. With the national team, he has played in 100 games scoring 4 goals. Playiuwith Burkina Faso since 2006, he has become the country's most capped player. 

Steeve Yago: Toulouse FC 2012-2019.

Yago is a French-born player who represents Burkina Faso at the national level. The defender featured in the 2015, 2017 and 2021 AFCON tournaments. His first Ligue 1 appearance came on 25 august 2012. His first call up to Burkina Faso 23 march 2013 against Niger. He played in 122 Ligue 1 games assisting twice. 

Bakary Koné: Olympique Lyonnais 2011-2016, RC Strasbourg Alsace 2017-2018.

The central defender made a good impression while playing for EA Guingamp in Ligue 2 and Lyon signed him in 2011. He made his debut for Burkina Faso in October 2006 at the age of 18. He was part of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations squad that finished runners-up. In the final he won the Fair Player of the match award. He has 83 appearances and is the third most capped player for his country.
