He joined from AC Milan, having signed with the Rossoneri from Flamengo in the summer of 2018. The native of Rio de Janeiro struggled to adapt in his two seasons in Italy, but after a slow start in Lyon, he became a key piece for Les Gones, he and compatriot Bruno Guimãres helping a push for the Ligue 1 title.
Named to the Ligue 1 Team of the Year in his first season, Paquetá finished his spell in Lyon with 18 goals in 67 appearances. He would leave for West Ham United in the summer of 2022, having made himself a regular for his country thanks to his standout play in France.
