Kylian Mbappé scored his 100th Paris Saint-Germain goal as the leaders won 3-1 at Montpellier. Teenage star Arnaud Kalimuendo netted as Lens caused Rennes another setback, winning 2-0 in Brittany.

MONTPELLIER 1-3 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN

THE MATCH

Montpellier gave the champions a tough match but their four-match winning run game to an end against Thomas Tuchel's side, who rounded out a fine week having won at Manchester United on Wednesday. PSG's two-match winless league run came to an end as they moved four points clear of Olympique de Marseille at the top of the table.

Tuchel sent out a side in a 5-3-2 with Moise Kean and Angel Di Maria as his two forwards, with the crucial Champions League game against Basaksehir on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes in mind. PSG took the lead (33') through an unlikely source as wing-back Colin Dagba finished off a Di Maria cutback.

Jonas Omlin saved well from Rafinha (41') and Montpellier went straight down the other end of the field to score. Stephy Mavididi, the English forward, met Gaëtan Laborde's cross. Dagba blocked the first effort but Mavididi followed up to net his third league goal of the season. Keylor Navas (43') was forced into a good save by the same attacker before half-time.

In the second half PSG began to carve out chances. Moise Kean (58') fired at Omlin, who then saved well from Di Maria (68') before the visitors took the lead (77'). Montpellier attacked looking for a second, but substitute Keagan Dolly lost the ball and man of the match Rafinha intercepted before passing to Kean. The Italian international breezed past home captain Daniel Congré before unleashing an unstoppable near-post shot that was clocked at 100 km/h by French TV.

Laborde failed to get a header on target (80') and then Junior Sambia spurned a good chance to equalise (87') before Mbappé - on as a substitute - tapped home a Layvin Kurzawa cross to bring up his century in Paris Saint-Germain colours. There was still time for home midfielder Mihailo Ristic to hit the post from 25 metres (90+3').

THE PLAYER: Rafinha

The former Barcelona midfielder enjoyed an outstanding match, touching the ball more often than any other player and setting up Kean for his goal. Rafinha set up fellow Brazilian Neymar for a goal at Old Trafford in the 3-1 win at Manchester United and is proving an important addition to the champions' squad.

THE STAT: 100

Kylian Mbappé has scored 100 goals in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain in 137 matches.

RENNES 0-2 LENS

Former leaders Rennes have won only one of their last eight league games and have slid down the table, while Lens bounced back in style from their 3-1 home loss to Angers last time out. Kalimuendo, the 18-year-old on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, has scored in each of his first three starts in Ligue 1 Uber Eats for Lens. He opened the scoring (28') with a low shot and substitute Ignatius Ganago (78') added the second on the counter, scoring his fifth of the season and his first since late September. With the win, Lens climbed to seventh in the table, a place above Rennes.
