THE MATCH

With Lille having moved provisionally top of the table earlier in the day with a 2-1 win over Girondins de Bordeaux, both sides knew they could snatch first place with a win - although for OL they needed to do so by three goals to claim it outright. Realistic ambition or not, the visitors had many of the better chances in the first half. Alessandro Florenzi fired narrowly past Anthony Lopes's far post early on (7') but Lyon began to chase PSG down, their mobile 4-3-3 causing no end of problems for Thomas Tuchel's side. Karl Toko Ekambi had a fine chance to make it 1-0 after Houssem Aouar had skipped past his marker to find space and then his teammate in the box, but the Cameroon forward tried to drill the ball across the face of goal when perhaps a shot would have been better (14'). Keylor Navas saved well from an acrobatic Kadewere volley which was subsequently called back for offside (23') before the Zimbabwean striker gave his side a deserved lead, latching onto Toko Ekambi's through ball and steering his fifth goal of the campaign low into the corner beyond Navas (35'). Florenzi nearly restored parity at the end of the half but Lopes saved his powerful, first-time effort (43').

Lyon hold on

Neither coach elected to change much at half-time - Thilo Kehrer had come on for the injured Abdou Diallo midway through the first half (29') - but that fact looked more likely to favour the visitors and they had another big chance soon after the restart when Memphis Depay broke through with Toko Ekambi and Kadewere both in space to his left, but Presnel Kimpembe recovered the danger for the champions, referee Benoît Bastien not interested in the Dutchman's subsequent penalty claim (54'). Tuchel rang the changes for the final half hour with Kylian Mbappé and Ander Herrera entering the fray in place of Angel Di Maria and Marco Verratti (65') but Lyon were unbowed and Lucas Paqueta nearly made it 2-0 with a chest down then volley from the edge of the box which had Navas scrambling (67'). Neymar picked up a yellow card for crashing into Lopes (72') - rather summing up PSG's frustration. Bruno Guimaraes could have added gloss to the scoreline late on but he lost his balance (90') and the game ended bitterly for PSG quite aside from the result, Thiago Mendes sent off for a challenge that saw Neymar carried off on a stretcher in injury time.

THE PLAYER: Tino Kadewere

It was a collective effort which saw OL pick up all three points here, every player pressing when out of possession and using the full width of the Parc des Princes pitch when on the ball, but Kadewere deserves a special mention. He ran down PSG just as hard as Toko Ekambi or indeed full-backs Léo Dubois and Maxwel Cornet, but he also displayed the most ruthless finishing at the other end. Pencilled in for a bit-part role following his summer arrival from Le Havre AC, Kadewere has made himself impossible for Garcia to drop.

THE STAT: 14

This was Lyon's first win in Paris in 14 attempts. The last time les Gones picked up all three points at the Parc was all the way back in October 2007 when Hatem Ben Arfa - who later turned out for PSG - struck twice in a 3-2 win with Lyon on the march to their record seventh consecutive Ligue 1 Uber Eats title.
