Nice beat Brest 2-1 to climb into the provisional top three in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

THE MATCH

Nice played very well in order to beat their visitors and might have won by more but for some wasteful finishing. With only one home win to their name prior to this, a 4-0 success against Bordeaux, Nice attacked throughout and Brest were only saved by thir goalkeeper Marco Bizot, who made loads of saves (11', 17', 47', 69').

Andy Delort (66'), Dutchman Calvin Stengs (55', 75', and 90+4') as well as Kasper Dolberg (83') could have added to the two goals Nice scored. As it was a misunderstanding between Denys Bain and Bizot allowed Jean-Clair Todibo to open the scoring (45').

Nice doubled their advantage (61') after Stengs had hit the bar with a left-footed effort (55') through Melvin Bard. The former Lyon full-back scored his first goal for the club as he headed in a first-time Amine Gouri cross from the left.

Brest, on a woeful run of form between last season and the new campaign under Michel Der Zakarian, pulled a goal back late on (90+2') through Franck Honorat, who netted his second goal of the season. Romain Faivre's miss-hit shot turned into an assist for the former Saint-Etienne man but there wasn't enough time left for Der Zakarian's side to manage an equaliser.

THE PLAYER: Melvin Bard

Not only did Bard score the first Ligue 1 Uber Eats goal of his career, the 20-year-old also played a part in the opening goal and defended well. This was undoubtedly one of his best games at this level.

THE STAT: 13

Brest have not won any of their last 13 Ligue 1 matches, their worst run sicne March 2013-August 2019 (14).
