Montpellier Hérault SC 0-2 AS Monaco

THE MATCH

Fresh from beating Trabzonspor 3-1 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, Monaco continued their excellent run of form as they went ahead in first-half stoppage time at the Stade de la Mosson. A Maghnes Akliouche cross from the right was deflected into the box where it fell to Wissam Ben Yedder. His attempt to control the ball turned into the perfect assist for strike partner Embolo, who lashed a shot into the net (45+1’).

Ben Yedder has been back in goal-scoring form lately but he did not find the net here, with home goalkeeper Jonas Omlin saving his shot in the 73rd minute. Instead it was another Monaco attacker who wrapped up the points by making it 2-0 with 10 minutes left. A low ball into the box by Caio Henrique was converted by Myron Boadu. The Dutchman had only just come on for his first league appearance of the season as a substitute.

Monaco have now won seven of their last eight games in all competitions, and five straight league wins have left them within striking distance of the top three. In contrast, this was Montpellier’s fourth defeat in five outings.

THE PLAYER: Breel Embolo

The Swiss international forward once again underlined his value to the Monaco team as he netted his fourth Ligue 1 Uber Eats goal to set the principality side on the way to victory.

THE STAT: 5

Five straight wins in the league for Monaco and also five Ligue 1 Uber Eats goals for Myron Boadu. All five of his goals have come away from home, and four of them have come as a substitute.
