English forward Stephy Mavididi scored the only goal of the game as Dijon beat Strasbourg to build on their Week 8 success at Reims.

Dijon FCO 1-0 RC Strasbourg Alsace

THE MATCH

Dijon lifted themselves off the foot of the table with the success and look to have turned the corner, making it frustrating for them that their momentum might be halted by the international window. The three points carried the Burgundy club to only a point back from the likes of Strasbourg and Monaco.

Strasbourg threatened approaching the midway point of the half as Alfred Gomis saved from Adrien Thomasson (20') and then from Sanjin Prcic (21'). Dijon made the breakthrough (38') despite Matz Sels producing a magnificent save to keep out a Matheus Pereira header. Stephy Mavididi followed up to finish from close range.

Mavididi fired over at the start of the second half (49') and then battling Dijon needed some good blocks (73') as Thomasson and Ludovic Ajorque did their best to score a leveller for the Alsace club, who have still not managed a goal on their travels.

THE PLAYER: Stephy Mavididi

The 21-year-old Derby-born forward is on loan from Juventus. Having started his career at Arsenal, the England Under-20s forward is relishing the opportunity for an extended run of top-flight games. This was his first top-tier goal and his ratio of one goal from two presentable chances suggests there will be many more as he attempts to lead Dijon's survival quest.

THE STAT: 2

Dijon have won back-to-back Ligue 1 Conforama matches for the first time since four successive victories that straddled the end of the 2017-2018 season and the start of the subsequent campaign.
