Ismaïla Sarr scored his first goal for the club and Chancel Mbemba gets back in the goals as Marseille bounce back from draw with Metz with a convincing win over Brest

Olympique de Marseille 2-0 Stade Brestois

Olympique de Marseille came out the blocks quick in the first half against their Breton opposition, and struck within the ten minute mark to open the scoring at the Vélodrome. It was as a free-kick was launched into the box from range and Chancel Mbemba rose highest with an emphatic header. The Congolese international wheeled away to celebrate his first goal of the season on his return to the side, returning to his goalscoring form previously seen under Igor Tudor. Les Pirates held resolute for the rest of the half, as OM looked to build on their lead. Brest were reasonably level in terms of their passing statistics, yet did little to trouble OM's Pau Lopez between the sticks.

A similar pattern of play was present in the second period, but it took until the 65th minute for the home side to strike again. This time it was Ismaïla Sarr to score his first goal for Marcelino's side since signing for the club. It was the product of a long throw in which saw the ball recycled out wide to Ronan Lodi. The Brazilian’s delicious low cross wasn’t dealt with by Bizot, and the former Watford winger Sarr was on hand to tuck the ball away with ease. Marseille then managed to see out the rest of the second half with relative ease to seal second place in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats standings.

THE PLAYER - Ismaïla Sarr

The former Watford man scored his first goal for Olympique de Marseille and it was thoroughly deserved. He was dangerous throughout the match for Marcelino’s side on the right hand side, and showed quick reflexes to open his account with Les Olympiens.

THE STAT

Only Alexis Sánchez has scored more goals than Chancel Mbemba last season, the Congo international was on the mark again OM's third match of the season, continuing last season’s form in front of goal under Igor Tudor and bringing his golden touch to Marcelino’s side.
