Olympique Marseille's attack continues to click on all cylinders after their 4-2 win over FC Lorient at the Stade du Moustoir. The performance marked the third time in their last four matches in all competitions that Marseille have scored three or more goals.

Marseille's offense struck early and often, as Gennaro Gattuso's squad scored three goals in less than 35 minutes of action. Chancel Mbemba, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Leonardo Balerdi chipped in to put Lorient in a hole they couldn't dig themselves out of.

Lorient responded to make it 3-1, but that positive momentum lasted but a minute as Aubameyang scored to give himself a brace right before halftime. Benjamin Mendy cut the deficit to 4-2, and that's all the offense Lorient could put forth in the loss despite Marseille playing with 10 men after Jonathan Clauss received a red card at the 80th-minute mark.

This recent rise in form also coincides with Aubameyang's impressive run of form in these last few matches. The veteran goal-scorer has seven goals in his previous four games in all competitions.

Additionally, Aubameyang has had three assists in his last two Ligue 1 contests. If the 34-year-old isn't scoring the goals himself, then he's providing the assists; the Marseille star is constantly involved in the attack one way or another.

The result keeps Lorient in the Ligue 1 relegation/promotion playoff for now, but with Olympique Lyonnais winning and Clermont Foot picking up a point, the two sides are nipping at Les Merlus' heels.

Meanwhile, the three points for Marseille put them in the thick of the race for European football next season. They currently sit in sixth place with 23 points, two points behind Stade Brestois, who also won on Sunday.

Furthermore, this win builds good momentum for their UEFA Europa League contest against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday. The winner of the match will get three points to top the group, although a draw and depending on the goal difference, could also be a way for Marseille to finish first.
