Paris Saint-Germain had been on the brink of heading to the UEFA Europa League in a wild rollercoaster of a one-all draw against Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 6 in Group F.

The Ligue 1 team came into the contest controlling their destiny: a win would put them into the knockout stages, atop the group, where a loss or draw would see them needing other results to go in their favor. As it was, the Ligue 1 leaders needed both other results to turn for them and a determined performance, one which sealed their place in the Round of 16, albeit in second place.

When Newcastle United struck first against AC Milan in the group’s other match, all the pressure went on PSG's shoulders – the Parisians had to find a way to score. However, the situation went from bad to worse, with Dortmund opening the scoring.

Nonetheless, Luis Enrique and his team received a couple of lifelines in a span of a few minutes. In the 56th minute, teenage midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery leveled the match at 1-1. Then PSG received a gift from AC Milan as Christian Pulisic scored the tying goal against the Magpies.

Furthermore, the help from AC Milan didn't stop there, as Samuel Chukwueze netted the Italians’ second goal for a 2-1 advantage. It was the result that PSG needed to advance, and for a moment, Kylian Mbappé had them topping the group, but VAR would rule his effort offside.

In arguably the most challenging group this Champions League season, PSG found their way to the round of 16. It was a nail-biter for the French side, but come full time, they had punched their ticket to the knockout stage, finishing second behind Dortmund.

Next up for PSG will be a date with one of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, or FC Barcelona. The round of 16 draw will occur on Dec. 18.
