Brand-new Paris Saint-Germain recruit Ander Herrera will be out for between three and four weeks with a calf injury picked up in pre-season training, missing the opening-day clash with Nîmes Olympique.

Paris Saint-Germain's Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera injured his left calf at the end of training on Wednesday morning, the Parisian club announced early in the evening.

"Assessments were carried out in the afternoon," announced the club. "He will resume training with the group in three to four weeks, depending on how the recovery process plays out."

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder arrived free from Manchester United in early July to compensate for Adrien Rabiot's departure to Juventus and strengthen, with his compatriot and fellow new recruit Pablo Sarabia, a sector where the Ligue 1 Conforama champions showed some weakness last term.

Schedule

He will definitely miss the Week 1 clash at home to Nîmes Olympique on Sunday, 11 August at 21:00 CET, as well as Week 2's clash with rivals Stade Rennais FC and Week 3's visit of Toulouse but should be available once again for Week 4's trip to promoted FC Metz or Week 5's Parc des Princes clash with Strasbourg.
