Memphis Depay and Martin Terrier netted first-half goals as Olympique Lyonnais beat Angers SCO 2-1 to get back on track as they aim to seal a top-three finish.

Olympique Lyonnais  2 - 1  Angers SCO

THE MATCH

The pressure was on Lyon coming into this game after they had lost their previous two outings at home to Dijon FCO and FC Nantes, allowing LOSC to pull away from them in second while AS Saint-Etienne closed in below to open up the fight for a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.

OL therefore desperately needed to get back on track in this, their first outing since Bruno Genesio's announcement that he would not be staying on as coach after his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Genesio recalled Marcelo, Depay and Nabil Fekir here after all three had started on the bench in the 2-1 reverse at Nantes a week ago, and the Dutchman made his mark with the early breakthrough for the home side at the Groupama Stadium.

Aouar sets up both goals...

Houssem Aouar's superb ball from deep sent Depay away in behind Mateo Pavlovic and he ran into the box before blasting past Ludovic Butelle for his seventh Ligue 1 Conforama goal of the campaign (14').

The lead was doubled six minutes before the interval and once again Aouar was the creator, with his pass this time releasing Terrier to come in from the left and finish as he continued his impressive form on a personal level.

Genesio's side should then have run away with this game after the break, but Butelle made a fine double save from Léo Dubois and then Depay's follow-up just before the hour mark. Meanwhile, Terrier had the ball in the net again quarter of an hour from the end as he headed in a Fekir cross, but the offside flag cut short the celebrations.

Tousart own-goal...

Instead, Angers rallied towards the end, with Anthony Lopes saving from Pavlovic 11 minutes from time before the visitors set up a grandstand finish by pulling one back a minute from time.

It was a disastrous goal for Lopes to concede, with the Portuguese goalkeeper misjudging a short pass to Jason Denayer, instead giving the ball straight to Angelo Fulgini. He tried to square it for his fellow substitute Wilfried Kanga, and Lucas Tousart slid in to intercept only to wrong-foot Lopes and send the ball into his own net.

Lyon survived, though, and consolidate third place before the rest of the weekend's matches. For mid-table Angers, meanwhile, this was a first defeat in seven outings. Conversely, they have managed just one victory in their last eight games.

THE PLAYER: Martin Terrier

Terrier's goal here proved to be decisive for Lyon, and he also had the ball in the net again in the second half only to be denied by the offside flag. While top scorer Moussa Dembélé was dropped to the bench, Terrier continued his excellent recent form: he has now scored in five consecutive Ligue 1 Conforama games and has eight league goals for the campaign.

THE STAT: 136

Houssem Aouar set up both goals and touched the ball 136 times in total in what was an impressive display from the gifted midfielder.
