THE MATCH

Monaco looked like they might play party pooper early on when Joao Moutinho span a free-kick into the Paris box, but Almamy Touré fluffed his attempted volley (6') and the hosts were off the hook. Edinson Cavani fired narrowly wide at the other end (10'), and PSG were celebrating the opener soon after, Giovani Lo Celso prodding home from close range after Dani Alves' cutback (14'). Cavani then added his name to the scoresheet, meeting Yuri Berchiche's cross to head home his league-leading 25th goal of the campaign. Floodgates duly opened, Angel Di Maria was the next to find the target, chipping Danijel Subasic after selfless work from Cavani (20'). Doubts have been cast over Lo Celso's ability to marshal the midfield from deep this season, but he was assured here and completed his brace with a near-post header inside the half hour (27'). Rony Lopes pulled one back for Monaco before the half was out, tapping in Touré's drilled cross (38'), but his muted celebration told its own story.

Never in doubt

To his immense credit, Lopes remained willing to swim as hard as he could against the tide, and minutes into the second half he was close to reducing the arrears further, stealing Cavani's pass intended for Thiago Silva before drawing a save from Areola (50'). Normal service resumed on the hour, though, with Di Maria joining compatriot Lo Celso in completing his brace after being teed up by the third Argentine on the pitch, Javier Pastore (60'). Adrien Rabiot - the darling of the PSG faithful as an academy graduate in a sea of expensive stars - was met with rapturous applause when he came off for Lassana Diarra (65'), but the change in personnel affected little change on the match. Di Maria smashed a shot into Subasic's gloves (74') before making way for Thomas Meunier (75') as Unai emery looked to defend the win sans stress, but there was still time for a Radamel Falcao own goal (77'). Lo Celso then left the field to a standing ovation of his own (80'), Christopher Nkunku replacing him, before Julian Draxler rounded off the scoring at 7-1 (86').

THE PLAYER: Edinson Cavani

That PSG so comprehensively outplayed their nearest challengers makes it difficult - perhaps even unfair - to pick out a single player for praise, but Cavani has exuded class from start to finish this season. He equalled Zlatan Ibrahimovic's haul of 113 Ligue 1 Conforama goals for PSG with his header for 2-0 and could have pulled further clear of the legendary Swede had he not been so willing to get his teammates involved in the net-bulging party celebrations.

THE STAT: 100

Di Maria's goal for 3-0 was PSG's 100th in Ligue 1 Conforama this season, making Unai Emery's men the first team across Europe's five major leagues - per UEFA's coefficient ranking - to reach a century of league goals. Manchester City, who wrapped up the English Premier League title after Manchester United's surprise 1-0 loss to West Bromwhich Albion on Sunday, have the next most with 93.
