A touchline ban means Simeone will be in the Groupama Stadium stands as part of a capacity crowd inside the home of Olympique Lyonnais as his Atletico side try to prevent Marseille claiming their club's second European trophy.

While Rudi Garcia's men have played a marathon 18 matches to reach the final since beginning their bid in the third qualifying round in late July, Simeone's side are more used to the UEFA Champions League, dropping out of the group stage this season and into European club football's second-tier competition.

Though the former Argentina international midfielder's team, which has reached the Champions League final twice and also a semi-final in the last three seasons, start favourites, Simeone knows Marseille's attacking potency could cause the La Liga outfit a serious problem.

"OM are a very dangerous team, particularly in attack. They like to go forward, and have a lot of young players in midfield who move well. Payet is a great player. He has such quick feet and the head to go with it," he said.

"Marseille have had a great season, be it in the league or in Europe. It'll be a really great final. We resemble each other a lot. They perhaps haven't been together as long as us, but they are just as enthusiastic and work very hard."
