Ligue 1 Conforama and Coupe de France champions in 2017-18 Paris Saint-Germain will take on league runners-up AS Monaco in the Trophée des Champions in Shenzhen, China on August 4.
As was the case last season, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco will face off in season curtain-raiser the Trophée des Champions, this time in Shenzhen, China on August 4. The competition traditionally pits the Ligue 1 Conforama champion against the Coupe de France winner, but as Paris Saint-Germain claimed both titles, their Trophée des Champions opponent will be the club from the principality.
Record in their sights
Second in Ligue 1 Conforama heading into the final round of the 2017-18 campaign, AS Monaco didn't falter as they dispatched ESTAC Troyes 3-0 at the Stade de l'Aube. This result not only guaranteed Leonardo Jardim and his men direct entry into next season's UEFA Champions League group stage - it also clinched the third Trophée des Champions berth in club history.
Meanwhile, the Parisians have won the competition seven times, as have Olympique Lyonnais. Thus, at the Main Stadium of the Universiade Center, Paris Saint-Germain will have a chance become the competition's most successful club. What's more, if they do so, it will be a sixth consecutive Trophée des Champions for the capital club.
Shenzhen, a city situated on the Chinese mainland near Hong Kong, will also host the 2019 edition of the competition.
