Alvaro Gonzalez has come out in support of misfiring teammate Dario Benedetto ahead of Olympique de Marseille’s trip to FC Lorient on Saturday.
“It is difficult for him as it is for me and all our teammates. I believe Dario needs confidence. He needs the whole team behind him. This is a time where we all need to stick together,” said the Spanish defender, as OM look to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Olympiakos in their Champions League opener.
The Argentine striker is still looking for his first goal of the campaign as Marseille head to Brittany, where coach André Villas-Boas indicated he may rotate his squad with Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Manchester City in mind.
“The amount of games we will have to play up to the end of December is going to be another problem for us, so we might see a few changes at Lorient,” Villas-Boas said.
Of Benedetto the coach added: “He needs to get back among the goals as soon as possible. He said to me at the end of the (Olympiakos) game that he was fed up. He is not in his best form but he has my support.”
