Kylian Mbappé described scoring his 100th goal for Paris Saint-Germain as "a liberation" and is now targeting netting against Basaksehir in the crucial Champions League game on Tuesday.

Mbappé had gone three matches without scoring since netting a double at former club Monaco on November 20 and told Canal +: "I'd been waiting to score this 100th goal for several matches. It's a liberation. I would like to thank my team-mates, the club that has had faith in me over the last three years, whether in the good or bad times."

Mbappé joined PSG from Monaco in the summer of 2017 and is now level with Dominique Rocheteau on 100 goals for the capital club; only Pauleta (109), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (156) and Edinson Cavani (200) are in front of him on the all-time list.

"200 is a long way away"

The 21-year-old brought up his century in his 137th game for the club, netting his 10th league goal of the season with a tap-in as a substitute in a 3-1 win at Montpellier on Saturday evening. 74 of his 100 goals have been scored in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, but only two of his 100 have been headers. Mbappé commented: "It's an area of my game I'm working on. I think I can improve in that department and I can also set up more goals. I've got room to improve in that area and it will come with time."

Asked if he's now going to chase down Cavani's 200, Mbappé said: "Already I didn't think I'd score 100 goals. 200 is a long way away. I need to keep scoring goals and I want to score in the Champions League on Tuesday."
