Olympique Lyonnais went top of Ligue 1 Uber Eats on Saturday with a 4-1 thrashing of OGC Nice, and defender Marcelo is beginning to dream of ending to the club's 13-year title drought.

Lyon were French champions seven times between 2002 and 2008 - a record of seven league triumphs in a row which stands to this day.

Les Gones have not suffered defeat since the opening day of this season, and have been on the podium since Round 11. Provisionally top for the first time this term after the Nice win, they will stay there if LOSC and PSG draw on Sunday night.

"For a team like Olympique Lyonnais, that's how it is, we play to win every game," said centre-back Marcelo, who has averaged three aerial challenges per game, even if former OL player Amine Gouiri cost them a clean sheet with a header on Saturday.

"We'll watch Lille-PSG on Sunday and see what happens. I hope for a draw, perhaps, then we can keep a hold of first place."

Tino Kadewere - who scored one and assisted another of OL's four goals against Nice - has his heart set on at least the Champions League come the end of the campaign. The Zimbabwean was playing in Ligue 2 BKT with Le Havre AC last season, but has hit the ground running.

"We understand each other when we're together on the pitch," he said. "We've played a lot of very good games, but this is only the start of the season. We need to work more to conclude the Championship with a lot of points and reach the Champions League again. I'm happy, I'm playing with very good teammates, in a very good team. We'll continue like this."

Lyon conclude 2020 with a match at home to FC Nantes on 23 December before kicking off the new year against RC Lens at the Groupama Stadium on 6 January.
