Neymar Jr. has been ruled out of action until 2021 following the ankle injury he sustained in Paris Saint-Germain's Round 14 1-0 loss to title aspirants Olympique Lyonnais.

The Brazilian superstar endured a frustrating evening at the Parc des Princes, but things went from bad to worse in injury time when compatriot Thiago Mendes played through his ankle when attempting to win the ball.

Neymar was left in tears with initial fears of a break. Although PSG subsequently confirmed that there was no long-term damage, they have since said that their record signing won't feature again this year.

"As a result of the left ankle sprain mechanism, there is an area of bone contusion for which he continues his care in Ooredoo," the club said in a statement. "His return to competition is planned in January."

Paris are still to play LOSC and RC Strasbourg Alsace before the turn of the year. Their first game in 2021 is against AS Saint-Étienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on 6 January.
