Lyon "only have ourselves to blame", according to coach Rudi Garcia, and immediately set his sights on winning next weekend's derby with Saint-Etienne following their late defeat to Metz on Sunday that saw them knocked off the top of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table.

Paris Saint-Germain and Lille had moved two points ahead of Lyon with wins earlier in the weekend, but Aaron Leya Iseka's added-time goal at the end of the Sunday night fixture at the Groupama Stadium meant OL did not overtake them, and finished the weekend down in third.

"It's a defeat that leaves a bitter taste, because it's not deserved given what we produced. When you only get 20% of your 22 shots on target, you shouldn't be surprised that you don't score. We only have ourselves to blame. We have to do a bit more and do it a bit better," explained Garcia, who saw Karl Toko Ekambi have a second-half goal ruled out for offside.

"We thought we'd learned that when you can't win, you have to play to take at least a point, but we weren't able to do that. We also lost too many challenges, especially in the first half. We should have done more collectively. We have to put that right quickly and focus on the derby with Saint-Etienne, which is coming up on Sunday. We need to get back to winning ways on Sunday. We've lost two places, it's massive."
