Memphis Depay's brace in Saturday's win over Strasbourg means the Dutch star has now scored more goals for Lyon than homegrown OL idol Karim Benzema.

Depay's double, which included a stunning free-kick, in the 3-0 win that took OL to the top of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table moved him onto 13 league goals for the season.

It also means he now has 67 goals in 162 competitive appearances for the seven-time French champions, one more strike than Benzema totalled in 148 appearances for his hometown club before joining Real Madrid in 2009.

"He's a great striker who's still scoring goals, but I don't want to compare myself to him," said Depay, who turns 27 next week. "I'm happy with my performances and my statistics. Benzema is an inspiration for me. It's an honour to pass him."

Depay is now just two goals shy of the next home-bred goalscorer in Lyon's all-time list, Nabil Fekir, and has a slim chance of entering the club's all-time top 10 this season.

To do that, however, the former PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United man has to reach the 82 goals Lisandro Lopez scored for the club before his contract expires in June.
