Olympique de Marseille have been given a boost with key defender Alvaro Gonzalez saying he wants to stay at the club.

OM host Angers on Sunday and head into Round 37 in fifth place in the table, knowing that sixth place is now also a European finish as Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco have qualified for the Coupe de France final.

Jorge Sampaoli's OM still have work to do to secure a European berth as they are only a point clear of seventh-placed Rennes. Alvaro told AFP: "I want to stay here. I know things will be different at the club next season. I train well and I lead a healthy life. At 31 I am young, and I feel better than I did when I was 25. The club, the president and the coaching staff will decide.

"The most important thing is to qualify for the Europa League. Then we can start identifying the things that need to be changed and improved. I'm aware that there are lost of things to be changed when it comes to the performances of the players, mine included of course."
