The Senegalese striker was voted Young Player of the Month for September in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. A look back at the performances of the Marseille man.

"He is an explosive player with great potential," said coach Jorge Sampaoli of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats Young Player of the Month for September.

Bamba Dieng is definitely one of the players to watch in Ligue 1 Uber Eats this season, as he is more than just an understudy for Arkadiusz Milik. The former Diambars player had a great month in September, scoring twice at AS Monaco and then scoring again a week later against Rennes, beating Loïc Badé to the balk and slotting home at the near post.

Solid shoulders!

Against Rennes, Bamba Dieng (21 years and 5 months) thus became the youngest player to score at least one goal in consecutive matches for OM in Ligue 1 Uber Eats since Georges-Kévin Nkoudou in November 2015 (20 years and 9 months).

"This lad is confirming that he has solid shoulders. He reminds me a bit of Mamadou Niang in his style of play, very fast, attacking and technically above average," said former Marseille striker Djibril Cisse of Dieng when talking to Téléfoot. "I have big hopes for him this season, even if he needs to improve his lucidity."

Against Monaco, Dieng became the first Senegalese player to score at least twice in a Ligue 1 Uber Eats match with Marseille since Mamadou Niang on 21 February 2010 (hat-trick), and the youngest double scorer with Olympique de Marseille in the top flight (21 years and 172 days) since Maxime Lopez at Caen on 30 April 2017 (19 years and 147 days).

OM's No.1 in Expected Goals

With three goals, Bamba Dieng is now ranked in the upper reaches of the scoring chart for players born in 2000 or later. Only Jonathan David (six, LOSC) and Amine Gouiri (five, OGCN) have done better. The performance from the player who made his Ligue 1 Uber Eats debut against Bordeaux on February 14 this year is all the more impressive when you look at goals per 90 minutes played by players of his generation.

With OM this season in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, only Dimitri Payet (five) has more goals than Bamba Dieng. The Senegalese nevertheless has the highest Expected Goals total (2.5) among his team's players in the league this season. Finally, if there is one place where Dieng can be found in 2021-22, it will be in the opposition box. He averages four touches per game in this part of the pitch, a feat no other OM player can boast since the beginning of the current campaign.
