Kylian Mbappé was understandably delighted to pull level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic as Paris Saint-Germain's second-highest scorer ever, and hinted he could stick around to overtake leader Edinson Cavani.

Mbappé put in an electric performance for PSG against AS Saint-Étienne on Saturday, scoring two goals and assisting the third as the league leaders came from a goal down to win 3-1 at their Parc des Princes.

Mbappé's second was his 156th in all competitions for the capital club, drawing him level with Ibrahimovic in the all-time pantheon of scorers. Only Cavani, with 200, has scored more goals for Paris, and Mbappé is delighted to be on that particular podium.

"Ibra, when you consider what he's done here, it's symbolic," said the forward, who is still just 23. "It's a high standard and I'm in an elite club. I've equalled it and if there are no big problems, I'll overtake it. There remains Edi's record. We'll see how it goes. You can't dismiss the prospect of being the top scorer in PSG's history."

Mbappé's contract runs until the summer of 2022, and he has been consistently linked with a move to Real Madrid - whom he scored the winner against in the UEFA Champions League two weeks ago - by certain sections of the media. The France forward seems attached to his hometown club, though.

"It's nice to have the affection of people, the fans, we also play for this kind of thing," he said. "There is of course this statistical performance side, but leaving an imprint, it creates a link, it touches me a lot. It's great to have the recognition of this family, that's why we play."
