Kylian Mbappé is hoping that Paris Saint-Germain's supporters will be fully behind the team in next Sunday's 'classique' against Marseille at the Parc des Princes.

A section of the PSG support have openly shown their discontent at the club's Champions League Round of 16 elimination at the hands of Real Madrid last month, after being in a commanding position for the majority of the tie. Some fans have also criticised PSG's management in relation to recruitment and the off-field direction of the club.

After his hat-trick in the capital club's 6-1 destruction of Clermont, Mbappé understood the frustrations of the supporters but expressed his desire for them to work in tandem with the players in what is the biggest game of the domestic season for both sides.

We need their support

"It's always special to play against Marseille both for us and for the fans," said Mbappé who took his tally to 20 league goals during the Clermont rout. "We want the fans to be with us; We understand that they are disappointed, it's understandable. If they are with us, it will be beautiful but if they are not then we will do our job because we are paid to do our best and we are happy to play in this type of game."

PSG' fans have shown their displeasure during the past four league games with a number of banners displayed and many refusing to even celebrate any of the team's goals, of which there have been 14 scored across those games.

Standards

With seven games to go until the end of the season and with the Ligue 1 Uber Eats title the only piece of silverware available for Mauricio Pochettino's men to secure, Mbappé knows that there is still expectation on his teammates and that the manner of the performances during the title run-in will go a long way to mending the fractured relationship with the supporters.

"At PSG, we are always expected to win. We may win against Marseille and then at Angers to officially become champions. But then if we lose at home to Lens after that, people may look to criticise us again? We are always expected to perform and do our best and we must continue like this until the last day."
