AS Monaco have announced the signature of former OGC Nice prodigy Malang Sarr on a one-year loan (with option to buy) from EPL giants Chelsea FC.

AS Monaco have made their fourth signing of the season. After Takumi Minamino, Breel Embolo and Thomas Didillon, Philippe Clement's team announced the arrival of Malang Sarr on Wednesday. The 23-year-old central defender is on loan from Chelsea FC for one season with an option to buy.

Return to the riviera

Born in Nice, he completed his entire youth career with the Côte d'Azur club before making his Ligue 1 Uber Eats debut on 14 August 2016 against Stade Rennais. He played a total of 102 games in the French top flight before moving to Chelsea in the summer of 2020. The former U-21 international then went on loan to FC Porto before returning to the Blues last season, where he made 21 official appearances.

"It is a satisfaction for us to welcome Malang to the Club," AS Monaco director Paul Mitchell told the club's website. "His technical profile and versatility will bring new solutions to our defensive sector. At 23 years old, Malang knows our league perfectly and has also had the opportunity to rub shoulders with the very best players during his experiences at great European clubs such as Chelsea and Porto. We are confident that his experience and skills will be invaluable in helping the squad achieve its goals this season."
