Marseille have signed Chilean international forward Alexis Sanchez on a two-year contract, the former Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United attacking midfielder having just completed three seasons with Inter Milan.

Alexis Sanchez has been signed by Olympique de Marseille. The club have announced the arrival of one of the greatest players in the history of Chile. The 33-year-old Tocopilla native has signed for Marseille after three seasons with Inter Milan. The 33-year-old is a welcome addition to Igor Tudor's squad, which is looking for experience to compete in the Champions League, and a new world star in our league.

Glittering career

Alexis Sanchez made his name in Italy with Udinese, after being bought from his parent club CD Cobreloa (Chile) in 2006 and then loaned out to Colo-Colo (Chile) and River Plate (Argentina), before moving to Barcelona in the summer of 2011. The first Chilean to pull on the Blaugrana shirt, he spent three seasons in La Liga (88 games) and added to his trophy cabinet with a La Liga title (2013), a Copa del Rey (2012), two Spanish Supercups (2011, 2013), a European Supercup (2011) and a Club World Cup (2011).

After a season with 21 goals and 16 assists in 54 games in all competitions, he flew to England and joined Arsenal in July 2014. He then became the undisputed leader of Arsène Wenger's team. In three-and-a-half seasons with the Gunners, he scored 80 goals, lifted two FA Cups (2015, 2017), a Community Shield (2014) and finished tenth in the 2015 Ballon d'Or. The powerful winger left to conquer Manchester United in January 2018, but he did not enjoy the same success and his statistics plummeted. He scored only five goals in a season and a half and very often sat on the bench.

A legend in Chile

To get back on track, he decided to return to the league that had brought him to prominence - Serie A - and went on loan to Inter Milan. Not as fast, powerful and explosive as he had been when he started out, it took him a few months to get back into form, but he convinced the club's directors and was offered a contract until 2023. He then went on to help Inter win the Serie A title in 2021, before scoring an extra-time winner against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup in January. He also won the Italian Cup last season.

In addition to his club career, Alexis Sanchez is a living legend in Chile. As well as being the most capped player in his country's history (143), he is also its top scorer (48). A leader of La Roja for years, he actively participated in both Copa America wins by Chile (2015 and 2016), including one under Jorge Sampaoli, and has played in two World Cups (2010 and 2014). Having made his mark in La Liga, Serie A, the Premier League and his national team, Alexis Sanchez will now try to do the same at OM in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, bringing his class, his science of the game and his talent to bear.
