Promoted club AJ Auxerre have announced that head coach Jean-Marc Furlan has been relieved of his duties, with assistant coach Michel Padovani to oversee the interim until a new head coach is appointed.

Jean-Marc Furlan has been sacked by AJ Auxerre, who currently sit in 16th in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

"Coach of AJ Auxerre since 2019, Jean-Marc Furlan has been laid off on a precautionary basis," announced the club in a statement. "As of this Tuesday, Michel Padovani and the entire current staff will take charge of the first team, who play host to Nice this Sunday at the Stade Abbé Deschamps Stadium."

Auxerre's 2-1 defeat to fellow promotees Clermont in Round 10 proved the final straw for the club's directors.

Furlan, promotion specialist

Jean-Marc Furlan, who is 64 years old, has built a reputation as a specialist in winning promotion to Ligue 1 Uber Eat: he did so with AJA last season and also three times with Troyes (2005, 2012, 2015) and once with Brest (2019).
