Neymar Jr. is back for Paris Saint-Germain's visit to FC Lorient on Sunday, but Lionel Messi could be rested with the FIFA World Cup just around the corner.

Neymar was suspended as PSG beat Juventus 2-1 in Turin on Wednesday to conclude their UEFA Champions League Group H campaign undefeated, with 14 of a possible 18 points won.

The Brazilian star will almost certainly return to the starting line-up on Sunday as Paris look to maintain, if not build upon, their five-point lead over next-best RC Lens in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

Messi situation

Messi may be rested as the 35-year-old looks to minimise the risk of injury weeks out from what is likely to be his last World Cup with Argentina, but his absence should make Neymar's presence even more likely on Sunday.

Kylian Mbappé, the third member of PSG's fabled 'MNM' strikeforce, scored the first and assist Nuno Mendes for the second against Juventus, and he enjoyed lining up on the left having been used at the point of the Paris attack in recent weeks.

"The coach decided to change the system and put me there," said the France talisman. "I [simply] play and try to be efficient. Now it's time for the World Cup. It's the trophy of a lifetime and people can't blame us for thinking about it."

Soler-powered?

Carlos Soler is the most likely to take Messi's place as one of two No.10s beside Neymar, while Christophe Galtier's hand is forced somewhat further back with Danilo Pereira only just returning from a thigh strain. Sergio Ramos or Nordi Mukiele could feature at central defence.

Lorient beat PSG 3-2 as recently as January 2021 when Terem Moffi scored a 92nd-minute winner in a 3-2 win at the Stade du Moustoir, and les Merlus have been similarly impressive this season.

They were PSG's closest challengers until Lens usurped them in that role recently, with last Sunday's 2-1 loss at home to OGC Nice the latest points dropped in a three-game winless wobble.

Le Bris: 'PSG a higher level'

"We're still a young team with a lot of enthusiasm, sometimes with a lack of efficiency when it comes to converting chances and managing the rhythm of a game," said Galtier's opposite number Régis Le Bris. "PSG will be at a higher level, but we have to give ourselves the means to pull off an upset."

Le Bris is without defensive midfielder Laurent Abergel - who scored in the aforementioned victory over Paris - due to a broken arm, but he has an otherwise full-strength squad to call upon, with the biggest question mark being whether his nephew Théo gets another start.

Possible teams

Lorient: Mvogo; Kalulu, Laporte, Talbi, Le Goff; Innocent, Le Fée; Diarra, Ponceau, Ouattara; Moffi

PSG: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Ramos, Bernat; Fabian, Verrati, Vitinha; Soler; Mbappé, Neymar
