RC Lens coach Franck Haise played down talk of his side qualifying for Europe after Saturday’s 2-1 win at Angers SCO kept them clear in second place in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table.

Goals from Wesley Saïd and Facundo Medina helped Lens to victory at the Stade Raymond-Kopa on Saturday as they moved to within two points of leaders Paris Saint-Germain and opened up a six-point gap on the chasing pack ahead of Sunday’s matches.

“Obviously when you have 33 points at this stage of the season you can start to say that a European place is accessible,” said Haise after Lens made it four consecutive wins in the top flight for the first time since 2001.

“We are going to do everything we can to improve our points total. Last year we got five points more (than the previous season). If we get five more points this year then we should get into Europe,” added Haise, whose side have now lost just one of their last 22 Ligue 1 games.

“But the squad is really focused on our performances each weekend. We are not getting carried away. There is lots of ambition in the squad but we know it all comes down to hard work.”

Lens have one more game before the interruption for the World Cup, with Clermont Foot 63 visiting the Stade Bollaert-Delelis next weekend.
