Italy midfielder Marco Verratti has once again extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, the diminutive genius delighted to be attached to the club through to 2026 - a full 14 years after he arrived at the club back in 2012.

While Paris Saint-Germain have splashed record amounts on players who have come and gone over the last decade, one player has remained a constant: Marco Verratti.

And now the Italian is set to continue the adventure even further, having inked on Wednesday a two-year contract extension that has him linked to the club through to June 2026.

On lock

The 30-year-old, who arrived from Pescara as a teenager, has made the club's central midfield position his own, racking up 261 appearances (seven goals) to become the club's second-most capped player and clinching an absolute-record eight Ligue 1 Uber Eats titles - among a host of other silverware.

With his previous contract not due to come to term until 2024, the extension agreement is a strong sign of the faith the club has in 'Le Petit Hibou' (The Little Owl) - and vice-versa, as Italy's midfield lynchpin explained.

'This club has very high goals and I share them'

"It was what I wanted the most, and what the club also wanted. We agreed very quickly, and that's a sign that we both wanted to continue," he said after the 2-1 win over Strasbourg as Ligue 1 Uber Eats swang back into action after the World Cup. "I am very grateful to this club, which has allowed me to do what I love most, at the highest level, with great players with incredible talent, playing incredible matches. This club has very high goals and I share them, and that's why it was a very easy decision. And I am very happy to continue playing with this shirt."

Verratti hit the decade-mark with the capital club at the beginning of the season and gave his thoughts on what looks like being a one-club top-flight career.

Crunch clash

Verratti's next chance to shine comes on Sunday when Paris Saint-Germain - for whom Kylian Mbappé scored a dramatic late winner over Strasbourg - take on nearest chasers RC Lens in the famed atmosphere of the Stade Bollaert in Round 17 on Sunday night (20:45 CET).
