Wissam Ben Yedder hit a brace with Kevin Volland alongside him last weekend, but there is no guarantee Philippe Clement will pair them up front for AS Monaco against Stade de Reims this Sunday.

Ben Yedder and Volland have formed a potent strike partnership at Monaco over the past three seasons, combining for 70 Ligue 1 Uber Eats goals in the two campaigns prior to this one.

But Volland has slipped down the pecking order this season, often playing out of position - if at all - with Breel Embolo joining Ben Yedder in attack more often than not since his arrival from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer.

Monaco frustrated

Ben Yedder struck twice last Sunday, but Monaco were held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-threatened Troyes. His goals also came after Embolo had replaced Volland in the second half.

"It's dangerous to draw conclusions about strike partnerships," reflected Monaco manager Clement. "It was difficult for the in the first half; the team did better in the second. It's important to think about the collective.

"It's important he keeps scoring," Clement continued of his 16-goal top scorer. "He's already scored some beautiful and difficult goals."

Embolo is expected to start against Reims, then, but Clement is less spoiled for choice elsewhere. Mohamed Camara has an ankle injury so Eliot Matazo will continued in central midfield, whie defenders Guillermo Maripan (thigh strain) and

Vanderson (knee) are out.

Still or sparkling?

Monaco are third in the table, five places and 11 points better off than Reims, but the Champagne club have been playing Champagne football since Will Still succeeded Oscar Garcia as head coach in October, and are yet to taste defeat under the English-Belgian in 16 Ligue 1 Uber Eats games.

Reims had to wait until the 95th minute to beat struggling AC Ajaccio last Sunday, with second-half substitute Jens Cajuste curling an unstoppable effort home past Benjamin Leroy.

The Sweden international is an example of Reims' surprising strength in depth, but Still is reluctant to say that his side can qualify for Europe this season.

Still: 'I don't even know our position'

"Top five? That's some challenge," said the 30-year-old, who is still yet to complete his UEFA Pro Licence. "But we shouldn't set ourselves limits. Either way, I'm not looking at the table, I don't even know where we are."

Monaco beat Reims 3-0 when the teams met in September, but Reims figure to be a sterner test this time around. Centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou in their only absentee with a thigh injury.

Marshall Munetsi is one booking away from a suspension, but expected to start at No.10 behind Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun, who is just one goal behind Ben yedder on 15 strikes in Ligue 1 Uber Eats this season.

Possible teams

Monaco: Nubel; Matsima, Disasi, Sarr, Henrique; Diatta, Fofana, Matazo, Golovin; Embolo, Ben Yedder

Reims: Diouf; Foket, Keita, Abdelhamed, De Smet; Matusiwa, Lopy; Ito, Munetsi, Flips; Balogun
