The former Newcastle and Liverpool striker is settling well into life at Amiens, and is determined to continue his adventure in Ligue 2 BKT with the club from the Somme region.

Andy Carroll joined Ligue 2 BKT side Amiens last summer in a move which made noise on both sides of the channel. After 353 matches and 86 goals scored in the Premier League and English Football Leagues, the former England international opted for a new adventure in France’s second tier.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool forward is now loving life with Amiens, settling well into life in a new country and a new role on the pitch. “I didn't know what to expect,” Carrol said in a recent interview with L’Équipe. “I knew I wanted a new challenge. I had options in England, but in my mind and heart I wanted to try something else.”

A new role at Amiens

The former West Ham man has played 20 games in Ligue 2 BKT this year, but has only scored three goals so far for Les Licornes. Much of this is down to the Englishman’s new role on the pitch dictated by Amiens manager Omar Daf: “He wants me to be a sort of number 10, to move back a bit, to be in midfield and to act as a link between the midfield and the striker. It's a position I've never really played in, but I like it. It's good for me and for the team.”

'I'd like to have another year at Amiens'

Life off the pitch also seems to be suiting the Englishman well. “I love living here. It's peaceful and relaxed. Everyone's friendly. Obviously, it's a very small town. So you see everyone all the time, they recognise you and you can have conversations.”

The 35-year-old has no desire yet to hang up his boots, “My plan is to continue playing. Obviously, I'd like to have another year at Amiens. If not, I'll look for an opportunity to play elsewhere. For the moment, I'm not looking to retire. I love playing football.”
