As Paris Saint-Germain gear up to face Real Sociedad in the second leg of their UEFA Champion League last 16 clash, we take a look at five notable clashes between Les Parisiens and Spanish sides in Europe over the years.

PSG have played 34 matches against Spanish sides down the years, winning 13, drawing 9, and being defeated 12 times. Here are some of the iconic clashes against teams from the Peninsula:

Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 Barcelona (Champions League Round of 16, 2017)

It was a notorious tie in the 2017 Champions League campaign as Les Parisiens ran out as 4-0 winners at the Parc des Princes against current manager Luis Enrique's Barça side in the round of 16. Ángel Di María opened the scoring in the 18th minute, before Julian Draxler added one in the 40th minute. Di María completed his brace in the 55th minute, with Edinson Cavani putting the game to bed with a late goal. With a 4-0 lead, Unai Emery's side thought they had put the tie to bed…

Barcelona 1-4 Paris Saint-Germain (Champions League Round of 16, 2021)

Les Parisiens were out for revenge, meeting for the first time since the famous 'Remontada' match at an empty Camp Nou. Mauricio Pochettino's side blew the Catalans away in 2021 with Kylian Mbappé scoring a hatrick and Moise Kean getting on the scoresheet.

Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 Real Madrid (Champions League Group Stage, 2019)

Ángel Di Mariá scored in the 14th and 33rd minute before Thomas Meunier added the cherry on the cake with a goal injury time.

Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 Real Madrid (Champions League Round of 16, 2022)

Kylian Mbappé scored in the 94th minute to give Les Parisiens a slender one-goal lead in the Champions League round of 16 two years ago in 2022.

Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 Real Madrid (UEFA Cup Quarter Final, 1993)

Les Parisiens dominated in the 2nd leg of the UEFA Cup Quarter final against Real in the 1992-1993 season thanks to a strike in the 33rd minute from George Weah and a late flurry of Paris goals via Ginola, Valdo, and Kombouare to complete a historic win over the Spaniards.
