AS Monaco aim to further cement a UEFA Champions League spot for next season when they travel to Groupama Stadium for a clash with Olympique Lyonnais.

Both of these teams met on December 15, 2023, at the Stade Louis II, with Lyon coming away with a 1-0 result thanks to a goal from Jeffinho. Monaco will aim to repay OL with a road win over their own on Sunday.

Second-place Monaco (58 points) have a ten-point lead between themselves and fifth-place OGC Nice (48 points). A road win over Lyon with only three more Ligue 1 matches on their schedule after this weekend has Adi Hütter and his team inching closer to Europe's top competition for the 2024-25 season.

Les Rouge et Blanc also head into the match against Lyon riding an eight-match unbeaten streak, with their last loss coming on February 18th, losing 2-1 to Toulouse FC. Monaco have also won their last four matches, so the squad is finishing this season in impressive fashion. Before their 4-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain last weekend, Lyon was on a six-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. After the bump in the road in the French capital, Pierre Sage and his team aim for a bounce-back win at home to close out this season on a positive note.

Lyon trail Nice by seven points for the UEFA Europa Conference League spot, so Les Gones still have a chance to qualify for European football next season through Ligue 1 aside frm winning the Coupe de France.

For OL, Monaco is one of two matches where they'll face a team above them in the table. Lyon will face LOSC Lille on Monday, May 6th, and the final two matches after their encounter with Les Dogues will be against squads below them to build momentum for the Coupe de France Final against PSG on May 25th.

As for Monaco, their final three matches after the Lyon clash will be against teams in the bottom half of the league. Monaco will have a favorable schedule as they look to punch their ticket to the Champions League in the coming weeks.
