This 2023-24 season, the promotion/relegation playoff tie is back! At the end of the league campaign, a home-and-away tie will occur between the 16th-placed team in Ligue 1 and the winner of the Ligue 2 playoffs.
The first leg will be held at the home ground of the Ligue 2 team, while the return leg will be at the home ground of the Ligue 1 team. The winner will compete in Ligue 1 next season, while the loser will play in Ligue 2.
Playoff rules in case of a tie:
- If the teams have scored the same number of goals after the return leg, the match will go into two 15-minute periods of extra time. The team that scores the most goals during extra time will win.
- If both teams score the same number of goals during extra time, or if no goals are scored, a penalty shootout will determine the winner.
