Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Gini Wijnaldum may have bagged his first two goals for the capital club was disappointed that his side let two points slip in a dramatic 2-2 draw away to RB Leipzig in UEFA Champions League Matchday 4 action on Wednesday.

After conceding the opener to PSG youth academy alumnus Christopher Nkunku (08') and then being saved from a two-goal deficit when Gianluigi Donnarumma saved André Silva's spot-kick (12'), Paris Saint-Germain looked on track to pull out one of the come-from-behind specials they have been producing on a regular basis this season in a dramatic match at the RB Arena in Leipzig on Wednesday.

Wijnaldum tapped home to complete a stunning team move involving Neymar and Kylian Mbappé (21') and then put his side in front with a header after Marquinhos had nodded on Angel Di Maria's corner (39'). A superb performance from the Dutchman, who really seized his opportunity when handed a start in a more attacking role in the absence of the injured Lionel Messi.

Overshadowed

"It was a difficult match and I think we didn't start well; they started better. They had an early goal, and a penalty but it was a great save from Gigio [Donnarumma]. Afterwards, we turned it around with two goals," said Wijnaldum, who has struggled somewhat since arriving on a free from Liverpool in the summer.

"I think we did better after 20 minutes, and in the second half, in moments, we played good football where we created chances, but also in moments, we made it difficult for ourselves where we lost the ball early on in the half, where they created chances. So, yeah, a difficult game, also because we made it difficult for ourselves. We gave them the ball too easily, so we have to improve on that."

Last-gasp

Indeed, difficulties persisted for Paris Saint-Germain throughout the match and right up to the final minutes, when Leipzig were awarded another penalty, with Dominik Szoboszlai making no mistake from the spot (90'+2) to level it at 2-2.

The last-minute result saw Paris Saint-Germain slip to second place in Group A with eight points, one point behind leaders Manchester City and four clear of Club Brugge with two matches left to play. For bottom club Leipzig, only a win would have seen them keep their lockout-round hopes alive, and their European campaign will end in December.
