Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino was understandably disappointed after his side dropped a one-goal lead to fall 2-1 to Manchester City in their UEFA Champions League Matchday 5 clash in England, but wasn't turning his nose up at having clinched second place in Group A on Wednesday.

First place was up for grabs in Manchester on Wednesday night and although Paris Saint-Germain drew first blood early in the second half - when Kylian Mbappé nutmegged Ederson from close range after Lionel Messi's square ball had been deflected - it was the hosts who prevailed and secured top spot and the seeding for the round of 16 that goes with it.

Pochettino: 'Controlled the game in many periods'

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus ended up sinking Paris Saint-Germain's dream of notching a home-and-away sweep against City, but capital club boss Pochettino was circumspect after the match.

"The first half I think was difficult as Manchester City forced us to play deeper and it is sometimes a good and sometimes a not so good situation. We suffered, we have to suffer at this level, in the Champions League, and again, against a team like Manchester City you need to suffer," said the Argentine, whose side are now assured of second place in the group, ahead of RB Leipzig and Matchday 6 opponents Club Brugge. "The second half I think we started better, I think we controlled the game in many periods of the second half and we scored. After that the team's circumstances didn't help us in keeping going in the same way and then we conceded of course. A bit disappointed but the qualification is there. We wanted to be first so yes disappointed about that."

Ramos to debut?

Paris Saint-Germain now turn their attention to Sunday's Ligue 1 Uber Eats Round 15 trip to Saint-Etienne, where big-name summer signing Sergio Ramos - an unused substitute in Manchester - could make his long-awaited debut as PSG look to extend their 11-point lad drop the Ligue 1 Uber Eats standings.
