France coach Didier Deschamps has singled Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé out for special praise ahead of the world champions' second Group D match against Denmark on Saturday.

France - Denmark

- Kick-off: at 16:00 GMT

Mbappé and France got the defence of the World Cup they won in 2018 off to a blistering start on Tuesday, the PSG man contributing a goal and an assist as les Bleus came from behind to beat Australia 4-1 at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al-Wakrah.

Former Montpellier Hérault SC man Olivier Giroud - who won a shock Ligue 1 Uber Eats title with La Paillade in 2012 - stole most of the headlines after his brace drew him level with Thierry Henry as France's all-time record goalscorer, but for Deschamps, Mbappé has no equal.

Deschamps: 'it's his competition'

"Kylian of course has been one of the best players in the world for some time now and he's feeling very confident, you can see that in the way he is playing," he said ahead of the Denmark game.

"I knew that he was going to be ready for this World Cup, it's his competition, he knows how to make a difference. He's part of a team and he has always been able to play as part of a team even though he's an individual, flair player as well. So that's great for us.

"I've got a lot of attackers, but Kylian's of course an outstanding one."

France will be without Lucas Hernandez after the Bayern Munich man tore his ACL against Australia. His younger brother Theo, who plays for AC Milan, is expected to start in his stead. There could be a second change in the back four with Manchester United's Raphaël Varane approaching full fitness.

Great Danes?

France start as favourites against Denmark, although the Danes beat les Blues home and away in the UEFA Nations League this year.

They couldn't find a way past Tunisia on Tuesday, though, the sides playing out a goalless draw at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan. If France win on Saturday, they are through to the knock-out stages.

Denmark midfielder Thomas Delaney injured his knee last time out. Mikkel Damsgaard is expected to come in for him, but Deschamps' opposite number Kasper Hjulmand isn't expected to make too many changes to a team which is backstopped by OGC Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Possible teams

France: Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Upamecano, T. Hernandez; Tchouaméni, Rabiot; Dembélé, Griezmann, Mbappé; Giroud
