LOSC's England U21 international midfielder Angel Gomes starred with a long-range screamer in the 2-0 win over Ligue 2 BKT side Pau that sent Les Dogues through to the Coupe de France round of 16.

The win saw in-form LOSC back up their 2-0 win over Ligue 1 Uber Eats rivals Troyes in the round of 64 and stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions, but the main talking point was the stunning goal scored by England U21 midfielder Angel Gomes.

Stunner

After a LOSC attacking move was scuppered in the area by the Pau defence, the clearance fell to Gomes five metres outside the area. The defence stood off the diminutive  midfielder and he needed no second invitation, launching a pile driver that sailed over the defence, past the 'keeper and into the top corner in glorious fashion.

It was just a third goal of the season for the former Manchester United man, and he was evidently pleased to have responded to the urging of his coaches with such a beauty.

"Yeah I'm very happy to score of course, and to be through to the next round. It was a nice goal also. Everybody's been telling me to shoot, and I shot and, luckily, it was a nice goal."

Riviera rendezvous

LOSC have to await the draw to know who they will face in the round of 16, but Gomes' next chance to impress comes on Sunday 29 January as Les Dogues travel to the Allianz Riviera to take on OGC Nice in their Ligue 1 Uber Eats R20 fixture.
