Alban Lafont will start in goal for FC Nantes against former side Toulouse FC in Saturday's Coupe de France final, at the expense of Rémy Descamps.

Nantes are out to defend their Coupe de France title against Toulouse at the Stade de France on Saturday, and Lafont - once regarded as the brightest young goalkeeper in the game - looks favourite to start against the team that gave him his debut.

Disappointment for Descamps

Descamps has been preferred in goal for Nantes' run to the final, the former Paris Saint-Germain youngster playing getting cup minutes with Lafont the undisputed No.1 in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, but that should change on Saturday, with it widely reported that Antoine Kombouaré will give Lafont the nod.

"I think I speak for all coaches when I say the transfer window can be a difficult period," he said earlier in the season. "I'm disappointed to have missed out on some players but I'm happy with my group. My best recruitment is to have kept Alban…"

Kombouaré's decision is helped by the fact that Descamps has a thigh injury. He is joined by midfielder Pedro Chirivella on the sidelines, the Spanish midfielder struggling with a groin strain. Andrei Girotto was suspended for Nantes' 2-2 draw with ESTA Troyes last Sunday but is available here.

Nothing Toulouse?

Toulouse's deepest run in this competition prior to this season was the semi-finals, which they last reached in 2009, but they have been stronger than les Canaris in Ligue 1 Uber Eats this season, sitting 12th, four places and nine points better off than Saturday's opponents.

Le Téfécé's captain Brecht Dejaegere is taking nothing for granted ahead of the big game, though.

Dejaegere doubt

"After the title we won in Ligue 2 BKT, it would be wonderful to win this too," he told Ligue 1 Uber Eats' Twitch channel. "It's a national cup from a great European country. But we're not there yet."

Dejaegere could miss the game with a concussion, but fellow midfielder Branco van den Boomen is available having been suspended for Sunday's 1-0 win at FC Lorient in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. Australia international Denis Genreau could be the third man in midfield alongside him and Stijn Spierings.

Possible teams

Nantes: Lafont; Corchia, Castelletto, Pallois, Centonze; Girotto; Blas, Sissoko, Moutoussamy, Simon; Mohamed

Toulouse: Haug; Desler, Costa, Nicolaisen, Suazo; Spierings, Van den Boomen; Aboukhlal, Genreau, Chaïbi; Dallinga
